Originally built for Oran Milo Roberts, two structural upgrades produced the current Doric Greek Revival style. Oran Roberts moved to Texas, served on the Supreme Court, was elected Governor of the State, and in the 1870s founded Prarie View State Normal College, Sam Houston State Normal College, and the University of Texas.
